Carnival celebrates Roosevelt Park Pre-Primary’s 60 years

ROOSEVELT PARK - 60 years of children passing through Roosevelt Park Pre-Primary's doors is celebrated.

This year will mark Roosevelt Park Pre-Primary’s 60 year long presence and influence in the community.

Over the 60 years, the school has had four principals. One of the first and the longest standing principals was Eleanor Swain. She developed the school’s proud traditions and established the ‘learning through play’ ethos.

The giant jungle gym that greets all who enter the school is a testament to the school’s ethos. At RPPS play is the most important part of any day and no two days are alike. Activities range from obstacle courses to messy play, baking to music and dance, perception to construction, art and crafts to science. Children are free to explore their world through their senses, through free movement and interaction with the prepared environment which facilitates learning.

With each child RPPS aims to nurture confidence, self-discovery, independence, and creativity and has proudly seen generation after generation of children enter formal schooling with confidence.

“This is a school with heart and soul, a place for all, adults and children to grow and express their unique selves,” said Joan Ferreira, who has been the school’s principal for 15 years.

To celebrate this special occasion RPPS will host a carnival on Saturday, 10 September at Franklin D. Roosevelt Primary School.
