UPDATE: Pelser asks for bail

ROODEPOORT - Marthinus Pelser's family strongly believes in his innocence.

Marthinus Pelser, accused of murdering his six-month old baby boy, Deon appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court today (31 August) with a legal representative at his side.

Pelser was initially going to appear via an audiovisual for the case to be postponed for further investigation, but as the link to the audiovisual was faulty, Pelser had to be brought to the court. Pelser’s parents were present along with Pelser’s legal aid representatives. Pelser’s father was quite verbal in making it known that he believes in his son’s innocence.

In a conversation with Pelser’s lawyer, his father said that he wants the bail amount to be as little as possible and asked if his son could only get off with a warning, as he believes that he is not guilty.

Pelser briefly appeared with a black hoodie and covered in a white substance. According to Pelser’s family, he has chickenpox and had to apply a medication. The case was postponed to 9 September for the formal bail application.
