Accidents waiting to happen

WELTEVREDEN PARK – JMPD will now monitor the Without Avenue and Rooitou Street intersection.

At a recent Sector 2 CPF meeting, the issue of the dangerous intersection at Rooitou Street and Without Avenue was brought up by RiverWel Resident’s Association member, Neville Burnett.

According to Burnett, he has received complaints from residents about this intersection especially in the early morning hours when people are on their way to work.

It is believed that people use this road as an alternative to Jim Fouché Road.

In the meeting, a resident of Without Avenue confirmed this issue and said that this intersection is an accident waiting to happen as many people fail to stop at the stop street.

Another resident asked Burnett of the possibility to have a JMPD officer monitoring at this intersection especially between 6.30am and 7am on weekdays.

Spokesperson for JMPD, Edna Mamonyane said that a JMPD officer for Ward 126 was present at the CPF meeting and he will now monitor this intersection. Mamonyane added that people need to respect the rules of the road and obey stop signs.

Details: JMPD, 011 375 5911.
