Delivery man jacked

BLAIRGOWRIE – Police confirm that delivery men have been targeted.

A delivery man from Domino’s Pizza was hijacked and robbed of his scooter while delivering a false order.

At about 9.30 pm on 23 August, the driver of the scooter arrived to deliver pizza when two unknown men robbed him. The driver, who did not want to be named, said that it was scary to go through the experience. He said when he arrived at the house, he pressed the intercom, but the residents of the house told him that it was the wrong address. He called the number again, that was when he was given a different address, which he then went to. “Usually, customers wait outside the gate, so when I approached, I thought it was the person who had ordered,” said the driver. He said he saw the man pull out a gun and another man emerged from the bushes, that is when he jumped off the bike and ran away. “They both had guns and they tried to chase me but I managed to hide,” he said.

He said that they went back to the bike and drove off with the pizza. “They didn’t take any money,” he said. The manager of the Domino’s Pizza, who also asked not to be named, said that this is the second time it has happened this year.

Linden Police Captain Walter Spencer said that this has happened about three times in the last month where people call while with a false order while they stand outside a random house with the intention to rob the delivery man.

Captain Spencer said that it is difficult for delivery men to confirm if the person who ordered really lives there. “They must always be ready to drive off,” he concluded.
