RUIMSIG - Security officer treated for glass splinters in his eyes after being shot at by robbers

A security officer of DMS Security #Home was left with glass splinters in his eyes and face after being shot at after a robbery that occurred in Roodekrans recently.

Operations Manager of DMS, Ivan Shaw explained that the officer was on the lookout for a car linked to the robbery when the incident took place. The officer was driving on CR Swart Road towards Doreen Road. The vehicle in question, a white Chevy Cruze, turned left into CR Swart Road from Belladonna Road where it was met with the DMS officer.

“Three of the five suspects in the vehicle jumped out and started to shoot at the officer’s vehicle,” said Shaw. The officer tried to chase the vehicle, but could not drive because he had glass splinters in his eyes. The suspects, unfortunately, got away. “The officer is doing well. He is at an eye specialist at the moment to have the glass removed from his eyes.”

The owner of BCI Protection Services Ā in Little Falls, Corinda Loots explained that incidents where security vehicles are being shot at are a regular occurrence. “It is as if criminals does not fear authority anymore,” said Loots. She added that the problem occurs so often that it’s usually only one or two security officers who have to deal with a whole group of criminals against them.

“We created a group so that all the local security companies can warn each other and stand together,” said Loots. The five suspects in the white Chevy Cruze is still at large.
