Winter wonders at Welties Library

WELTEVREDEN PARK - Children make friends while being creative at the local library.

Glue sticks, glitter, leaves and about 40 excited children combined, made for a morning of fun and creativity at the Weltevreden Park Library.

The children had to make winter collages to depict the winter season theme, using different elements in the hope of winning a prize.

Sandy Visser from the library said that she always looks forward to the annual holiday programmes that they host to entertain children during the school holidays. “I am so excited about the turnout today (6 July). A lot of new faces has joined us today. It shows that children still love libraries,” said Visser.

“Aunty Sandy” told the children that they are all winners, but if they put in their best effort the ladies from the Friend of Weltevreden Park Library group will hand over prizes to the three best art works.

Cole Blyth eagerly cut pictures out of magazines and said that he loves spring time. The family moved to Weltevreden Park from East London. “It is very cold here,” said Blyth.

Keandra Fourie looked proud of her tree creation and said that she prefers spring as there are a lot of flowers in spring time. Her sister, Julie also went for a tree design. “I love autumn because I like autumn colours,” said Julie.

With all the winter pictures being created, Friends of Weltevreden Park Library warmed the children up with cups of hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Hosting these very special holiday programmes at the library are very important to instill the love of reading and books in our young children, said Visser.
