A man is still on the run following the death of his six-month-old baby boy.

Marthinus Pelser was last seen on the evening of 11 June.

According to Provincial Police spokesperson, Kay Makhubela, the mother of the child had left the child in the father’s care when she went to work in the morning.

“When she returned in the evening, she asked her husband where the baby was. He allegedly told her that the baby was asleep in the bedroom,” said Makhubela.

But when the mother went to check on the baby, she found him wrapped up in a towel and blanket; not breathing.

According to Makhubela, when she returned to ask her husband what had happened, he had taken her car and left. He has not been seen since.

“The baby was found with burns to his body and a head injury. Paramedics were called to assist, but the baby was certified dead,” he said.

Makhubela has encouraged anyone who knows the whereabouts of Pelser, to encourage him to come forward to the police, to assist them in ascertaining what happened to the child.
