Residents face a cold morning

Wilgeheuwel - An unexpected power outage leaves residents feeling the autumn chills.

Residents were caught off guard on the morning of 14 May when they faced a power outage due to cable theft.

The Christiaan de Wet substation was the target of cable theft. Residents living in Wilgeheuwel, Radiokop, Honeydew and surrounds have had to make do with no electricity.

City Power spokesperson, Yumna Sheik said that technicians were on site trying to fix the problem as speedily as they could.

She expressed that cable theft at the substation in question is a continuous problem. “It is not the first time this substation has dealt with theft. As a long term solution we plan on re-routing the cable,” said Sheik.

Restoration time has still not been determined. Sheik explained that the cable was causing a back-feed fault.

Residents are asked to please be patient as the matter is being dealt with.
