WATCH: Noisy generator to be removed

RUIMSIG - Generator put up due to mini substation shutdown should be removed today.

“The noise is keeping my two teenage children from sleeping in their room.” A resident of Vieira Road in Ruimsig complained about the deafening sounds coming from a mobile generator opposite the Poortview Gardens Complex.

The resident said that the generator has been there for a month and explained that the noise is keeping her children from sleeping in their bedroom, resulting in them sleeping on the floor of their parents bedroom. “Even when we close all the doors the noise is still very loud.”

She added that she suspects that her dog is also getting sick due the fumes that the generator is releasing. “My dog never gets sick and recently he has been throwing upthrew up.”

City Power acting spokesperson, Yumna Sheik, said that the generator will be removed on 13 May. Sheik explained that the generator was erected due to a incident that happened three weeks ago. “There was an incident where one of Roodepoort’s depot employees was injured when he was working on the mini substation,” said Sheik.

She added that the Department of Labour issued a prohibition notice not to energise the equipment until the risks are identified and eliminated, hence the generator on site. “We have been informed that the notice has been lifted and the generator will be off site by today,” said Sheik.
