Scrumptious cupcakes for autism

MULDERSDRIFT – Mouthwatering cupcakes are sold to educate and delight.

Cupcakes were sold for a good cause at Cradlestone Mall on 29 April. Current Mrs Commonwealth South Africa finalist, Lizelle Kachelhoffer was joined by her little helpers to not only appease those with a sweet tooth, but also educate them about autism.

Pupils from LUC Academy came to help sell some mouth-watering cupcakes to shoppers.

Kachelhoffer expressed that the cause hit close to home as her child is living with autism. “I decided to host this event to raise awareness about autism and because Pink Drive is my charity, I decided to bring them in too,” she said. Kachelhoffer added that April is Autism Awareness Month and wanted to shine a light on the condition. “I want people to know that just because someone might have autism, it is not a barrier to their success, it is very important to me for children living with autism to know that they can make a difference in the world,” said Kachelhoffer.

She expressed that the event was to not only educate but give something back to the community as well. All the money that they managed to raise through the sale of the cupcakes will go to Pink Drive. “The children all feel like they are saving people’s lives through this event,” said Kachelhoffer.

Kachelhoffer jokingly added that her dog did not let her hours of baking go to waste as he managed to sneak off with a few cupcakes.

Former Mr Commonwealth finalist, Nelius du Preez said that he loved seeing children get involved in charity work. “This is a great foundation for them as they will feel the need to help others as they get older,” said Du Preez.

He added that this event was all about trying to make a difference in people’s lives. “You are never too small or too inadequate to make a difference in someone’s life,” said Du Preez.
