Areas of Northcliff, Newlands and Roodepoort have been affected by severe power outages. The reason for these outages is yet to be identified in some areas.
Most of these areas have been without power since 20 April and are still without power. Northcliff has been restored after it lost power due to a cable fault. “The areas affected are just outside my ward, but a small area was affected and was quickly fixed. However, our systems are old and we are desperate for an upgraded sub-station, especially now, since the water tower does not have a generator and depends solely on electricity from City Power,” said Ward 88 councilor, Pat Richards.

“The Newlands power outage has not been confirmed yet, as technicians are still conducting investigations. In Roodepoort there are four load centres that are off. This is affecting Roodepoort CBD and Florida Glen. Technicians are on site working on restoration. The time of restoration cannot be confirmed yet, ” said [City Power https://www.citypower.co.za/Pages/default.aspx] spokesperson, Yumna Sheik.
