Signs of vagrants in Struben’s Valley mountain

STRUBEN’S VALLEY – Security sweep is done to prevent vagrants from occupying free open space.

A private security company is continuing to remedy the persisting problem of vagrants along Witwatersrand Avenue.

SRT Security conducted a security sweep in the greenbelt area and along the mountain area bordering Struben’s Valley on 5 April.

Broken computers, empty handbags, and other items were discovered at the mountain, but vagrants were not found at the time.

Maggie Bezuidenhout from SRT said the mountain sweep and greenbelt monitoring was done in an effort to ensure the area was safe and free from criminal activities.

“Response officers found signs of vagrants sleeping in the mountain area. The area is badly littered,” she said.

She further indicated that although the greenbelt area was free of vagrants, they would regularly visit the area. “We will conduct these sweeps on a regular basis. This will also be done at night,” concluded Bezuidenhout.
