UPDATE: SACAA and police to investigate plane crash

LANSERIA – Training flight turns to tragedy outside Lanseria International Airport.

Paramedics rushed to the scene of a plane crash approximately 8km from Lanseria International Airport just after 4.30pm on 7 March

It was reportedly a training flight.

“It is reported by witnesses that the plane had taken off from the airport when it called in a Mayday,” said Emer-G-Med spokesperson Max Cohen.

On arrival, paramedics found that the two occupants of the plane, a man and a woman, had already succumbed to their injuries. They were declared dead on the scene and burnt beyond recognition.

The exact cause of the crash is unknown and the crash is under investigation by the South Africa Civil Aviation Authority as well as the South African Police Services. Paramedics and SAPS are still on scene.
