School proud of their athletes despite not qualifying for SA Champs

WELTVREDEN PARK : Eight athletes made it to the final of the Gauteng primary school athletics championships.

Panorama Primary School in Weltevreden Park are proud to have had 13 athletes compete in the Gauteng Primary School Athletics Championships at the Roodepoort Athletics Stadium on 26 and 27 February.

The 13 pupils participated in 21 events at the championships and managed to gather 20 medals, of which seven were gold, eight silver and five bronze medals. Eight athletes from Panorama Primary School managed to reach the finals and participate in their specific events.

According to head coach, Leon Griffiths it is thanks to all the coaches commitment that the athletes showcased the excellent results. The eight athletes unfortunately missed out on a place in the Gauteng team to go to the South African Championships in Port Elizabeth on 11 and 12 March.

Griffiths said that the championships went very well and that they are very proud of their pupils, but the tournament was difficult as the programme was two to three hours behind schedule and pupils had to wait a long time for their turn to compete.
