10 Welties athletes go to Gauteng Champs

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Welties dominates the District 12 athletics team.

Weltevreden Park Primary School will send 10 of their athletes to compete in the Gauteng Championships on 26 and 27 February.

The journey started with the Inter-School Championships, where ‘Welties’ had 32 of their best athletes compete against numerous schools in the area. From there the 32 pupils went to the Roodepoort Championships.

Welties head of sport, and athletics coach, Quintus Writes was proud to explain how from the Roodepoort Championships, 17 pupils were then selected to attend the D12 trails. “13 out of the 17 were selected for the District 12 team,” added Writes.

The excited athletes furthered the successful journey when they were chosen to compete at the Gauteng Championships.

Writes continued, “We actually had 13 pupils qualify for the D12 team but they don’t accept athletes from U9.”

The 10 pupils who were chosen are: Emma Visser, Sabrina Ubold, Mikayla Prando, Alison Visser, Leigh McMorran, Victor Nnodu, Nobuhle Mogashwa, Amy Jones, David Nnodu and Daniel van der Westhuizen.

Out of the 10 pupils, six are middle distance runners and four are sprinters.

“I am so proud of the children; they have done well and will continue to work hard,” Writes added.
