Giant piggy bank ready to be filled with small acts of kindness

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Bacon and Eggs is the newest project launched by Charity Begins With Me.

Resident of Weltevreden Park and the brain behind Charity Begins With Me, Stephan Ferreira launched a new project, Bacon and Eggs. He said that he tries to launch a new project each month as people get tired of old projects.

The project was inspired by the five-year-old son of a friend. “The boy collected coins to buy some dog food for a local shelter. We decided to lend a helping hand, ” said Ferreira. He jokingly added that with a lot of paint and a bit of patience, members of Charity Begins With Me created one of the world’s biggest piggy banks. “His name is Kevin Bacon,” said Ferreira.

He added that the charity will be collecting coins for the next few weeks and will be donated to an animal shelter to assist with veterinary bills. “Of course a little bit of bacon is no good without a few eggs. This is why we will also be collecting Easter eggs for various children’s homes and hospitals,” said Ferreira. He added that the charity collected over 3000 Easter eggs in 2015 and they hope to break that record this year.

“This project helps teach your children the importance of giving back and helping those less fortunate.” The charity has three drop-off points in Linden, Weltevreden Park and Randpark Ridge. “Lets make this a special Easter for all children in need of a little TLC. The smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference,” concluded Ferreira.
