GALLERY: Pupils give back to charity

FAIRLAND – Pupils from Wonderland Pre-Primary learn the fundamentals of charity by donating to children in need.

Pupils of the Wonderland Pre-Primary in Fairland did their part for charity on 4 December.

Every year the school collects used toys and clothes from the families of the pupils. According to Mandy Vorwerg, the children decorated large paper bags and filled it with clothes, toys and sweets. “We do this every year to get into the Christmas spirit of giving.” Wonderland works with The Lords Abode, which is an NGO that has a nursery school called Happy Faces. This nursery school is based in a very poor community. The parents of these children can’t afford to pay school fees. For many of these children it will be the only Christmas present that they receive.

“We are teaching our children to have a caring heart and to care for others who do not have as much as we do. We want the children to understand that there is joy in giving and helping. Christmas is not just about getting toys, but about caring for and giving to other people,” said Vorwerg. She added that the pupils are still too young to understand the concept of appreciation for what they have, but they can understand that not everyone has the same privileges.

By helping the charity, the school is teaching the children to do good.
