GALLERY: Ruimsig Academy goes from strength to strength

RUIMSIG – Ruimsig Academy prepares children to be leaders with Christian values.

Ruimsig Academy is a school dedicated to achieving excellence through diligence and hard work.

The academy was initiated in 2007 when it started as a nursery – by 2011, it grew into primary and this year, it developed further into a high school.

Principal Eugenie Louw said that they have invested in the application of 21st century teaching.

“This is the practice of applying skills like critical thinking, communication and creativity to challenges that they would face in future. Its is very important to look at a child holistically as a child has many facets – spiritual, athletic and academic,” said Louw.

The Ruimsig-based school is an independent Christian school registered with Cambridge International and the Gauteng Department of Education.

“Many schools talk about 21st century education but few employ it,” said Louw.

The principal further added that the school helps children discover themselves in a safe environment.

For Shakespeare to come alive for the children and go beyond the theory, Louw signed the Grade 7 pupils up to act out Shakespeare’s Midsummer Nights Dream at the Shakespeare School Festival.

The play was held at the Johannesburg Theatre in September and was a roaring success.

Pupils were said to have been very professional – they even helped write their own dialogue and with the staging and costumes.
