Residents living in fear

LANSERIA – Residents are fed up after rampant crime incidents occurred in their area.

Residents of Botesdal Farm, Plot 1, in Elandsdrift Road in Lanseria have allegedly been terrorised by unknown robbers for the past few months.

Since July several incidents of robbery and housebreaking have allegedly occurred in the farm.

Six families with at least 15 residents were fed up with these criminal incidents and were suspecting that a syndicate of two unknown robbers were terrorising them.

“Our farms in the Elandsdrift area are currently under constant attack by armed robbers, causing endless unnecessary expense, unrest and loss of faith in the protection services we are supposed to rely on,” explained a resident who do not want to be named for fear of victimisation.

He complained that on the night of 12 November while they were in his yard replacing a security light lamp, they saw an alleged intruder running in the adjacent field in a westerly direction.

They tried to chase the unknown intruder. “We suspected at least two intruders. The area was combed, but no one arrested. Thereafter fresh footprints were discovered in the gateless access road to the farm yard, entering from the north this time,” he said.

Those incidents had been escalating since July when two intruders allegedly fled with electronics after robbing one of the residents at gunpoint at the farm.

Again on 15 October a resident was robbed at gunpoint in his home. The intruders allegedly tied up the resident in his TV room and ransacked his office. They allegedly fled with electronics and a hard drive with 11 years of research and tourism development material.

Residents have prepared the report of the crime incidents that occurred in their area and were planning to meet with the Muldersdrift Station Commander, Colonel David Seabi.

Krugersdorp Cluster Communication Commander Captain Appel Ernst said she would confirm all the incidents as soon as she gets the information from Muldersdrift Police Station.

Details: Muldersdrift Police Station, 011 952 4600.
