WELTEVREDEN PARK – RiverWel discusses crime trends and elects a new committee.

The annual general meeting (AGM) of RiverWel Resident’s Association (RWRA) was held at the Weltevreden Park Primary School on 14 October.

Kevin Thomson, chairperson of RWRA, opened the meeting by welcoming all members who were in attendance.

Thomson handed over to Honeydew SAPS Sector 2 managers Sergeant Nicolas Makhura and Constable Danie Soldaat.

Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin addressed the RWRA about reporting issues like potholes, incorrect billing or any other matters, in the proper manner.

“First report it to the certain entity, get a reference number. From there hand it over to your RA chairperson, who will direct it to me and I will escalate the issue,” explained Tonkin.

Sgt Makhura discussed how Sector 2 is still a ‘stubborn crime hotspot’ in accordance with SAPS provincial.

“We thank RiverWel for initiating the training of domestic workers,” remarked Sgt Makhura.

From the training, the prevalence of burglaries has decreased.

He added that burglaries are still an issue even though security companies have been more visible at entrances and exits to the sector.

Sgt Makhura commented, “We urge residents to be cautious during the end of the year and throughout the festive season.”

Kevin Thomson opened the elections for the new 2015 to 2016 committee.
