WELTEVREDEN PARK – Rand Park Primary School takes home the glory after winning the Panorama Primary School's double-wicket cricket tournament.

Rand Park Primary School won the double-wicket cricket competition recently held at Panorama Primary School, beating four other schools to take the glory. The other schools that competed were Panorama Primary School, Weltevreden Primary School, Charterhouse School and Laerskool Roodekrans.

Each team consisted of six players, two of whom batted and bowled, and the other four fielded. Each school supplied a wicket keeper which was rotated throughout the competition. The format was a round robin with each team playing four matches. Ten games were played in all, on a point system, and each team faced five overs. Rand Park Primary finished the competition with 17 points, followed by Charterhouse School.

The best batsman for the day was Chad Elliot who won a Gunn & Moore cricket bat. Best bowler was won by Connor Dale who received a match ball, batting pads and run up disc. Best fielder for the day was taken by Tumelo Mogano who received target stumps and a match ball. Steve Bezuidenhout, the cricket coach from Panorama Primary School, congratulated the winning team and commended them for a great show of sportsmanship throughout the competition.

He thanked the parents who were present for attending the competition. “Parental support at these events has dwindled over the years and we thank parents who gave up their Saturday and supported their children even though the day started very chilly,” he said.
