Tommy Lubbe grateful for LA experience

STRUBEN'S VALLEY – Tommy Lubbe returns home from WCOPA with contracts and opportunities.

Tommy Lubbe went over to Los Angeles in July to compete in the 19th Annual World Champions of Performing Arts (WCOPA) and did better than he could have expected.

After the first week of recovering from jetlag, the performers all had to attend a three-day boot camp where organisers went through the rules and regulations of the competition. During this period, varying organisations worked with the performers in the different categories. Lubbe said, “The models were sent on a number of go-sees (where models visit different agencies and try to get hired) and I went on 10. I have a number of modelling contracts confirmed for the Far East, so that is very exciting.”

Contracts aside, the ultimate surprise came at the time for the gala event at the end of the competition. Lubbe explained, “It’s a rigorous process to be selected – artists have to get through the semi-finals and the finals and that doesn’t guarantee we’ll be selected. I was asked to MC the event with Miss USA and that was the cherry on the top for me.”

His acting endeavours are also reaching fruition with a sitcom and film role in the works. On his time in Los Angeles, Lubbe said, “There’s nothing for me to be ungrateful for. Everyone was warm and welcoming and I really like it there. I’ve already started looking for an apartment.”
