WELTEVREDEN PARK – More than 200 Honeydew Sector 2 residents take to the streets.

The community showed its support by taking part in the Honeydew CPF Sector 2 Fun Run on 12 September.

The run /walk which drew about 200 residents and included children, furry pups and some serious athletes, started at Weltevren Park Primary School.

Those who couldn’t stomach running the 5km course chose to enjoy a lovely walk through their suburbs finest greeneries.

Public relations officer for Honeydew CPF Sector 2, Jon Rosenberg welcomed the runners, “It is extremely exciting to see how many people are here to support their own community, the numbers of participants have grown since last year and I’m sure will continue.”

Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin spoke to the crowd of runners, “It pleases me so to see such community involvement. It is events like this that help us better our streets and our community.”

The proceeds from the event went to help keep the Honeydew SAPS Trauma Centre afloat.

The rocky uphills, soft green belts and tricky downhill sprints saw three teams of six or more win the race.

Beagle Watch placed first followed shortly by Community Support Services (CSS) in second with Remax Masters Rentals coming in third place.

The first three female runners to finish the race were Leigh Mcmorron, Mikayla Pranat and Eden Hatzir. The male race winners were Sheraaz Snyman, Motimba Ngobeni and Katlego Suping.
