FEATHERBROOKE – Featherbrooke Estate hosts a women's breakfast to raise funds for underprivileged children.

A women’s breakfast was hosted on 10 September at Dulce Café in Featherbrooke Estate, to raise funds for the Santa Shoebox Project.

Santa Shoebox coordinator Michele Engelmann said the project that started in 2006, has achieved a great deal of success over the past years.

She explained the goal of the project is to supply underprivileged children with a Christmas gift.

“During the first year the project started, only a 180 boxes were given to children. Last year, there was a total of 118 000 gift boxes,” said Engelmann.

The goal of the project this year is to obtain gifts for 100 000 underprivileged children across South Africa.

She said every box must contain toothpaste, a toothbrush, a washcloth, soap, a clothing item, educational supplies, sweets and a toy.

Featherbrooke Estate public relations director Shona Jonsson said the breakfast was organised by the estate to show their support for the Santa Shoebox Project.

Jonsson said she was delighted to see the success of the event.

Breakfast was served during which South African actor and singer Matt Stern entertained the guests.

There was also a market available where the women could purchase various items.

Engelmann said to take part in the project, a child can be chosen online and the boxes must be dropped off in the last week of October at the allocated destinations on the website.
