Hirsch’s Struben’s Valley celebrates Arbor Week

STRUBEN’S VALLEY – Spring is here, and leaves are budding.

As the weather warms, trees will start their summer jobs. Some will shade our houses and lower air-conditioning bills. Others will hold clothes lines or hammock strings that are tied to their branches. A few will support swings, play houses, and climbing robes.

Arbor Week is from 1 to 7 September and provides a chance to acknowledge how trees make our daily lives so much better. Even if families can’t plant a tree there are ways to enjoy and appreciate trees.

An Arbor Week celebration recently took place just outside Krugersdorp, at Tsakani Full Service Primary School, with Hirsch’s Struben’s Valley and Life Style Home & Garden giving a warm welcome to a few newcomers – 35 trees that were planted by pupils from grade R to Grade 7 who took turns shoveling dirt to cover the fledgling tree’s tangled roots.

The children all participated in a coloring competition where they won a cash prize and some DEFY goodies. The winner for Grade R was Ramasela Langa, Kgotatso Ditalame came first in the Foundation Phase and the proud winner for the Intersen Phase was Tsidi Makonano.

A Grade 6 pupil won the lucky draw which was an amazing hamper from Dis-Chem.

Fun was had by all involved and present. A huge thank you to Life Style Home & Garden, Impala Fruit and Flowers and Dis-Chem Struben’s Valley.
