Pupils play their hearts out

RUIMSIG – Maragon Private Schools hosted 11 schools in the KFC Mini Cricket Festival.

Maragon Private Schools hosted the KFC Mini Cricket Festival on 22 August.

Eleven schools participated in the festival and about 296 enthusiastic U6, U7 and U8 pupils played their little hearts out in a total of 34 matches.

Each player got an opportunity to bat and bowl six balls.

Like true sportsmen (and women), the players of opposing teams shook hands and congratulated each other on a match well played, and on having fun.

“The aim of KFC Mini Cricket is not winning, but to promote participation and a love for the sport,” said Maragon’s Sonett Swart.

Swart added,”Important skills and techniques were taught, which will one day help them when they are Protea players. Before this day, all coaches had to attend a mini cricket course to make sure that the young cricketers are taught right.”

She also thanked KFC for sponsoring the wickets, bats and balls for the day. KFC has also agreed to be the official sponsor of mini cricket for the next 10 years.

“We are very excited about this, as some of the U21 Bizhub Highveld Lions, started their journey with KFC Mini Cricket,” concluded Swart.
