W2000 writers praised

Writers 2000 members awarded for writing success.

The Writers 2000 (W2000) Writing Club held their annual awards ceremony at Inyoni Creek Retirement Village, club house in Lyndhurst.

W2000 chairperson Nicolette Bosman said in the categories fiction, non-fiction, poetry and back pages, members were awarded for their achievements.

Joan Evans was awarded with the Marion Scher Plate Award for the exceptional service she has delivered to the W2000 Club.

Evans has been editing the group’s magazine The Write Stuff for the past 13 years.

According to Bosman, Evans – known as the “Unsung Hero” by other members – was also awarded with the Ford Award for the extra help she has given behind the scenes.

Evans said she feels proud and honored to have received the recognition she has.

Jake van der Wilden received the Chairman’s Cup for excellent support of W2000, he was the 2013/4 chairperson.

The Pen Cup was given to Gus Coward for marked improvement and success in writing.

Bosman said Coward has been performing well in the monthly competitions held by the group.

Heather Baiocchi was announced as the runner-up of the Pen Cup– also for her success in the monthly competitions.

The Carpenter Cup was jointly won by Mary Geddes, Joan Evans and Nicolette Bosman for their external writing achievements.

These three writers have had short stories published in the anthology, 36 Hours, which was published by allaboutwriting in 2015.

For support of the group’s magazine, Duncan Stepo received the Editor’s Award – he is also the group’s current poetry editor.

Judges included Professor Medalie of the University of Pretoria, author and chief executor officer (CEO) of Porcupine Press and authors Marion Scher and Annica Foxcraft.

Bosman said the indefinite event has been running since 1985.

“As long as people share in interest in writing and want to connect with other writers the group as well as awards will continue,” said Bosman.
