Sarda celebrates Tekkie Tax Day

RUIMSIG — Local NGO joins national campaign to raise funds for the disabled.

Volunteers and workers at South Africans Riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda) kicked back in sneakers and coloured shoe laces as they celebrated Tekkie Tax Day.

The organisation’s fundraiser, Julia Morris said last year she ordered 3 000 stickers and 2406 of them were sold.

“This year we ordered 7 500 and 10 packs of shoe laces. The shoe laces are sold out, we are still counting the number of stickers left.”

Local schools and businesses including Maragon, Monash University, Curro Aurora, Gateway School, Panorama and BMW Clearwater. They sold stickers for the disability section of the Tekkie Tax campaign.

Morris said for each sticker sold, they retained R4. “This all goes to the daily running of our centre. We constantly battle with sourcing regular funding to ensure the continued existence of our centre – which is R55 000 per month. We have 10 therapists and their services depend on sponsorships.”

The Tekkie Tax Campaign is celebrated nationwide on the last Friday of May.
