Maimane engages with South Africans in cyberspace

Newly elected Democratic Alliance (DA) leader and Weltevreden Park resident Mmusi Maimane on 13 May conducted a
question-and-answer session on Twitter.
The session dubbed, the Twitter Town Hall, saw South Africans asking various questions ranging from soccer, Beyoncé, to issues of policy and much more.
Maimane’s spokesperson Mabine Seabe said Mmusi enjoyed the session because it gave him a chance to engage with South Africans on issues of policy, his plans for the DA and his plans for making South Africa better.
“He also had a laugh here and there when people asked him about Beyoncé and other funny questions,” Seabe said.
The session introduced the leader to South Africans who were able to ask him any question as the only rule for the Twitter Town Hall was to #AskMmusi.
On his views on Black Economic Empowerment Maimane said, “The DA fully supports policies of redress that create jobs for everyone and not just a connected few.”
When asked by @Mduntanzi, “Why do you hate Jacob Zuma/”, Maimane responded, “Holding the President accountable does not equate to hating him.”
On electricity issues facing the country, he said, “We were the only party in Parliament that asked to debate energy; we have made proposals to ultimately, take [the]power from [the] ANC.”
When asked about his vision for the DA Maimane said, “To build a non-racial society built on an inclusive economy to create opportunity for all.”
Following his Twitter session Maimane said, “Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. I am looking forward to engaging with you further in the future.”
An excited user @shawnroos said Maimane had enaged more with ordinary South Africans than President Jacob Zuma has in two terms.
