LITTLE FALLS – Community members get together to have Hendrik Potgieter Road clean.

On Saturday 11 April, SRT Security Services initiated a clean-up along Hendrik Potgieter Road. Little Falls Struben’s Valley Community Forum (Lifco), Realty Concepts and Remax Properties and community members alike joined in and assisted in the clean-up.

According to Maggie Bezuidenhout of SRT Security, the aim was to rid the perimeter walls of Almond Rock Street of overgrown shrubbery where vagrants were sleeping. Bezuidenhout said the event had a great turnout from community members and said that this proved that residents want their safety and security back.

“A resident got shot in Almond Rock Street in an armed robbery. The criminals got access from Hendrik Potgieter Road,” highlighted Bezuidenhout.

She elaborated that this proved that residents are fed-up with all the crime and want to get rid of the vagrants selling drugs on the corner of Fredenharry Road and Almond Rock Street.

Bezuidenhout said they have also initiated a funding project to install cameras on the drug-dealing hotspots in the area. She also added that this was not a once-off thing and that all role-players will do a follow-up clean-up to ensure that criminals have no place to hide or gain access to homes in Little Falls and Struben’s Valley. During the clean-up, a black plastic bag was found and it contained several handbags believed to have been robbed or stolen from people in the area.

Details of the next event clean-up will be communicated on the SRT Security Services Facebook page as well as the Lifco website.
