Miss SA India Gauteng is all about inspiration

JOBURG – Miss India Gauteng 2015 Sherianne Pillay says she wants to use her platform to help others.

Miss India Gauteng 2015 Sherianne Pillay (21) has her heart set on impacting the youth.

The former Rand Park High School pupil, who was crowned in March at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City, said she is grateful for the platform she has been given.

“I want to use this platform to impact the lives of others. My sole purpose is to empower the youth and give young girls a boost in being more ambitions, being themselves and to be confident,” said Pillay.

Winning Miss India Gauteng is a great feat for the first-time pageant entrant, but the ambition doesn’t stop there.

Pillay is eyeing the Miss India South Africa throne, as this will help her inspire the youth on a much bigger platform.

“I am extremely passionate about younger women, it was never my goal to just be a pageant queen and sit somewhere and be pretty. My goal was to promote beauty with a purpose and help care for the less fortunate. In the world we live in, it is very difficult for young women to stay on the straight and narrow. Women need to know that it is okay to be yourself and not to fall into society’s idea of perfect or ideal.”

In the meantime, she plans to get down and dirty, involving herself in as many community projects as possible during her reign as Miss India Gauteng.

“It is not about me, it is about other people and being selfless.”

Pillay is not just a pretty face.

She is currently a University of Witwatersand third-year law student and is passionate about South Africa and history. She hopes to pursue a career in commercial law once she has completed her studies.

The Roodepoort resident has started her own blog,Cherié Chiq, that she hopes to use in her mission of getting young women to believe in themselves.

• Humility is important

• Focus on yourself

• Think positively

• Keep a healthy mind and body

• Don’t compare yourself to others

• Believe

• Don’t think you are better than another person.
