Lead SA encourages motorists to obey the rules of the road

LANSERIA- Road safety awareness campaign led by Lead SA, was aimed at encouraging motorists to obey the rules of the road.

Lead SA and other organisations have embarked on a campaign to raise road accidents awareness.

The death of Minister in the Presidency Collins Shabane raised concerns again over the road safety regulations in the country.

Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters, joined Lead SA as it conducted road safety awareness campaign on 19 March 2015 in N14 near Lanseria.

The awareness was aimed at curbing carnage on the roads and encourage motorists to obey the rules of the road.

Minister was joined by the MEC of Roads and Transport in Gauteng Dr Ismail Vadi and chairperson of Lead SA Yusuf Abramjee as well as senior government officials.

The left lane of the highway was blocked off over a distance of about 500m.

“We can’t just carry on the way we have been behaving, as it is leading to thousands of unnecessary deaths and injuries every year,” said Lead SA’s Yusuf Abramjee.

“We have to stop, wake up to the impact of our actions, take responsibility for that and change our behavior. It is important enough to warrant inconveniencing commuters to make our point and to take them out of their comfort zones,” he said.

“The death of Minister Collins Chabane and his two protectors at the weekend sparked a justifiable focus on road safety, but it is unacceptable that this issue only makes news when prominent people are killed.
