Fear not, for just as you worry for your child when they are not by your side, school patrols have been introduced in several schools to keep every pupil safe. Scholar patrols are an important part of road safety in many schools and instills an awareness and road safety in the minds of pupils.
Scholar patrol also helps alleviate traffic around the school which occurs when many parents drop their children off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Student patrollers help control traffic while safeguarding their schoolmates by preventing them from crossing the road when it is not safe.
Bruce Smuts from Active Education says that they have grown to include 420 000 pupils in their school safety programmes.
Patrollers are usually older school pupils that have shown great responsibility and punctuality. The job generally demands the free time of scholars and their ability to come out in any weather.
