Weekend for cyclists, runners and their families

STERKFONTEIN – Cycle challenges from the novice, amateur and expert rider at the Africa Cycle Fair.

This year’s Africa Cycle Fair will take place at the Cradle of Humankind with races and an interesting cycle exhibition that will take place from 24 to 26 October.

Event organiser Carien Els said that the event will start off with a Cradle Sunset Ride on 24 October. “The ride will be a short, but hard, ride with spectacular views of the Cradle at sunset.”

She explained that cyclists will be able to choose from a variety of races on Saturday the 25th. “The races will be aimed at the mountain bikers with distances that range from 30km to 60km and a difficult single-speed 30km-mountain bike race. The routes will be picturesque and will run through private concession areas and World Heritage sites.” She added that Saturday will end with an unofficial South African Cyclocross Championship that should draw huge crowds.

“The Randonnaire Populaire Cycle Challenge will take place on Sunday at 7am and it will be a 110km-long distance that can be seen as an introduction to long distance cycling.” The runners will also be able to complete in a trail run that will start at 7.30am and will have either a 10km or 15km distance that runners can choose between.

“If you are not cycling or running, then you can still come and enjoy the weekend by visiting the exhibition that will take place at the Nirox Foundation Sculpture Park located inside the Cradle of Humankind.”
