More magic from M-Net

FERNDALE -M-net is launching their Magic in Motion Academy in 2015

M-Net Magic in Motion is pulling out all the stops to empower the youth in the film and TV industry.

Following the success of the M-Net Magic in Motion expo that was recently held at Mark’s Park Sports Club in Emmarentia, M-Net is embarking on its second part of the initiative – the M-Net Magic in Motion Academy which will be launched in early 2015.

M-Net Magic in Motion has two flagship initiatives aimed at the youth, which is an experiential Expo and a Film and TV Academy, both of which were created in conjunction with some of M-Net’s key production and broadcast partners.

The Magic in Motion Academy will serve as a premier ‘finishing’ academy for film production. This initiative is also a platform for the transfer of knowledge from industry professionals to new entrants.

The academy will focus on careers that can be found in TV and film production studios and locations, such as director of photography (DOP), producers, art directors and sound designers.

“These tangible initiatives manifest M-Net’s commitment to our youth and the film and television industry, contributing to the sustainability and growth of our local film and television industry,”says Kershnee Govender, M-Net corporate affairs director.

The selected students will gain thorough, practical knowledge of the profession after working systematically through the various departments of film and television production, something that most people only achieve after spending several years in the industry.

The interns will receive a stipend paid by M-Net and they will gain hands-on experience at the assigned production companies.

M-net will also coach, mentor and assess the students. The selected candidates will have the privilege of attending regular, scheduled master classes during the year, where they will benefit from the experience of top professionals in the film and TV industry.

M-net also added that at the end of the academic year, the student, along with the production company, will produce a piece of work according to their commissioning brief.
