Why you should vote for The Plastics to open the city

JOBURG – The race for the band that will open the Vodacom In The City festival is on!

After an intense judging session in search for the Vodacom In The City festival opening band, this year’s panel whittled down the entries to four finalists: The Plastics, P.H. Fat, The Kiffness, and Bye Beneco.

It is now up to music fans to decide which of these four bands will be named the Open The City winner and share the stage with international headliners including MGMT at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, on 3 October.

Quirky retro rockers The Plastics (Karl Rohloff, Sasha Righini, Arjuna Kohlstock, and Pascal Righini) told City Buzz why they should be chosen to Open the City:

Describe the band’s energy and sound in one sentence:

White-boy dream funk.

Why should people vote for you to Open the City?

MGMT and us are destined to form a white-boy dream funk supergroup, and this is our one chance to soften them up.

If you are chosen to Open the City, what can fans expect from your set?

Well, ‘fros and floral print come standard, obviously. But it’s also very likely that we’ll debut some brand new tracks from our upcoming album.

Three of the four finalist bands are based in Cape Town. Is it time for The Plastics to consider moving to Joburg?

We’re not so sure… There’s only so much of Joburg we can handle at a time! The months back home are crucial for our sanity. Let’s compromise and move halfway… Bloemfontein?

To vote for The Plastics, visit the Vodacom In The City website or SMS ‘PLASTICS’ to 48477 before 12 September.

Standard SMS rates and terms and conditions apply.
