JAM celebrates 30 years and a million children fed

Joint Aid Managment (JAM) celebrates its 30-year anniversary at Avianto Village Hotel in Mulderdrift on 21 August.

JAM is a South African founded ‘international humanitarian development organisation’.

CEO of JAM’s Peter Pretorius commented, “I am excited for this event; it’s been a long 30-year journey in which we have made a huge difference in Africa.”

To date, the organisation has fed 1.2 million children all over Africa.

Aside from their work in countries such as Mozambique, Angola, South Sudan and Rwanda, more locally, they have set up community centres in Randburg and neigbouring areas like Zandspruit, Diepsloot and Etzotseng .

According to managing director David Brown, there are four steps they follow – nutrition, infrastructure to learn, education for care-givers, and the rally of the community for the childrens’ development.

The evening celebrated many successes of the organisation – one being that they have started producing their own food in Mozambique.

Anne Pretorius, cofounder stated, “From a woman’s perspective, the most difficult thing has been the emotional side. However, we have turned a sense of despair into one of opportunity.”

Pastor Ray McCauley, who is an active member of JAM said, “JAM is an authentic entity that helps people and children in poverty.”

Ultimately, JAM is an African organisation, built by Africans and helping Africans.

It is inspiring to see a programme that focuses on the nutrition, security, training and agricultural development for the children of our Africa.
