Muldersdrift to host the ‘Peace Starts 2014 Concert’

MULDERSDRIFT - Top South African artists are lined up to perform at the 'Peace Starts' concert on 21 September.

How else can you, as an ordinary South African, show that you support peace in the country?

Well attending the Peace Starts 2014 concert is one way of showing that.

The concert will take place on 21 September at Heia Safari Ranch in Muldersdrift.

Peace Starts 2014 is a free music concert that features some of the top South African musicians and bands, celebrated concurrently with The International Day of Peace which is aimed at commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace.

Lead singer of legendary rock band Wonderboom, Cito Otto – commonly known as Cito – said South Africans are no strangers to the concept of choosing peace over conflict, with the country’s democracy being built in these very principles.

He explained that peace is not an idea.

“Peace is also not just the responsibility of our government or our police force, but the responsibility of each and every South African.”

The Randpark Ridge resident said this year, the concert will be bigger and better than ever before.

“Every year Peace Starts has grown and taken on a new chapter. This year the concert takes our supporters out into nature to pause and reflect on the impact society’s aggression takes on our environment,” he said, explaining their choice of venue.

He added that by staging this year’s concert at Heia Safari Ranch, they hope the public will take a moment and consider what they can do to improve their community.

With this year being the sixth year of the concert running, Cito founded this annual event following the World Peace Day concert, held in 2008 in South Africa.

The concert forms part of the global events that take place during the week surrounding the International Day of Peace.

Some of the South African artists who will perform at the concert are Ross Leamonth and Neil Breytenbach from the popular rock band Prime Circle, rappers Slikour and Shugasmakx, Timothy Moloi, Connell Cruise, Josie Field, KB Motsilenyane, Zandile Mzazi, Andra and Ayo Solanke.

One of the event organisers, Collett Dawon, explained that the artists, as well as all involved in the staging of the event, have given their time and talent free of charge.

Cito said he is moved by the response of artists and arrangers, and their willingness to get involved in putting up a world-class event.

Gates will open from 12pm, the concert will start at 1pm and is expected to run until 5pm.

Though the concert is free, bookings are essential and can be done on www.peacestarts.co.za

“Guests need to print out the confirmation received from their booking and present it at the entrance gate to gain access,” said Dawson.
