The pressure is on

JOBURG - Studying is not easy, but studying toward a degree and having a full-time job is incredibly difficult.

Studying is not easy, but studying toward a degree and having a full-time job is incredibly difficult.

I am currently studying toward a degree through the University of South Africa (Unisa) and with exams in full-swing, I am feeling a little overwhelmed. Exams are always stressful, but this time round, I am really feeling the pressure.

I take my hat off to people who have completed their studies or who are currently studying while working. You give up your entire social life and crack down every night to fit it all in, but you still somehow never have enough time to do it all. I sometimes wish I had a 30-hour day or I could forfeit the hours I spend sleeping just to manage it all. I think my family and friends are also tired of hearing, “I can’t come, I have to study.”

I am sure once I have completed my studies, the late nights and the weekends locked in my study will be a distant memory. But I’m not going to lie, I wish that day would come sooner rather than later.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. I know it will all be worth it in the end, but for now, it seems the light at the end of the tunnels is miles away.

On the other hand, it is nice to see that I am not alone. Every day the exam venue, where I write my exams, is packed with young and old students hoping to pass.

So, to all the students out there, I wish you well, study hard and good luck.
