Saving seabirds with Sasol

ROODEPOORT - The Sasol Bird Fair, the biggest of its kind in Southern Africa, attracts birding enthusiasts from all over South Africa.

The Sasol Bird Fair, the biggest of its kind in Southern Africa, attracts birding enthusiasts from all over South Africa. The annual Sasol Bird Fair will take place on the 7th and 8th June 2014 at the Walter Sisulu National Botanic Garden in Roodepoort.

According to Events Co-ordinator, Nikki McCartney, the theme of the 2014 Fair is ‘Going Inland to Save our Seabirds’. “The fair aims to get bird-watchers together to both celebrate birds and to have a good time while heightening a public interest towards the need for protecting birds and their habitats and to support bird conservation projects,”she said. She also mentioned that The Sasol Bird Fair is focused on cultivating bird lovers and enjoyment of nature and it will form an important component of Sasol Birdlife SA National Bird Week.

McCartney said the event will also feature lectures and presentations by leading bird experts, bird photography workshops, bird identification courses, guided bird walks and entertainment and educational activities for children.

Entrance fees will be R35 for adults, R25 for pensioners and disabled, R25 for University students with valid student cards R25, R12 for scholars and free for children under 6 years.
