WILGEHEUWEL - City Power forgets to turn off the lights
The streetlights in Johan Road, Wilgeheuwel shine bright – all day and all night. Esmé van Heerden is baffled that the lights have remained on, even when the area experiences power outages.
“We have been in contact with City Power for the past three weeks and nothing has changed yet. They sent me three separate reference numbers and not one of their teams have been in the vicinity in the last couple of weeks,” she said.
Another resident Frank Rheeder agreed, but sees the humour in the situation when all the houses along the road are without power but the street lights shine on.
City Power Spokesperson Sol Masolo said, “The streetlights are controlled by a automated system but when it has been tampered with during vandalism or cable theft, the system stops working and needs to be reset.”
He said the entity would assess the system that controls the streetlights in Wilgeheuwel and undertake the necessary repairs.
