Video of animal cruelty removed

ROODEPOORT - Death threats made on Ritchie's life days after video is uploaded to You Tube

The Roodepoort SPCA made headlines when inspectors had to remove two puppies from Christopher Ritchie, a Ruimsig resident who was found guilty of cruelty to animals.

What made the story more intriguing was that Ritchie’s neighbour recorded him on his mobile and the video was posted on You Tube by the SPCA on 3 March.

According to Roodepoort SPCA Chairman Jaco Pieterse the organisation had to remove the video from the site after threats have been made on Ritchie’s life.

Pieterse said, “The accused’s lawyer sent us a letter in which he threatened to take us to court if we leave the video on You Tube. We took the video down not because we were not allowed to have it on the site but because Ritchie feared for his life.”

He was of the opinion that his guilt was public knowledge and that the public had the right to see the video because the court case already took place and Ritchie received his sentence.

Pieterse was unable to comment about whether the video would be uploaded to the site at a later time.
