Blocked drains neglected

Weltevreden Park resident Rapula Motibane is close to reaching the end of his tether due to blocked stormwater drains in front of his house in Brook Road. Motibane explained that his home has flooded numerous times during the rainy season. “As soon as it starts raining the water gathers around the drain and then it runs down through my gate into my garage.”

He added that his pool pump had to be replaced due to flood damage. Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said the blocked drains have not been cleared for the last four months. “The matter was escalated to the Johannesburg Roads Agency and they only cleaned the first drain; they skipped the second problematic drain because they did not have a logged reference number and could not fix it.”

Motibane has not heard back from the entity since the query was logged a month ago.

No comment was received from the roads agency at the time of going to print.
