Blueberry Street open to motorists

HONEYDEW - Pipeline construction completed much to residents' relief

On 6 January frustration for motorists came to an end as both lanes of Blueberry Street were reopened.

Since the end of July last year only one lane was available to motorists due to the installation of Q5 pipelines.

“I received complaints on a daily basis from motorists that were fed-up with the road being closed,” Ward 125 councillor Mike Tonkin said. “It was done to provide water to informal settlements in Kya Sand, Cosmo City and Zandspruit.”

He explained that the construction was part of a Governmental Strategic Integration Project to upgrade and improve infrastructure in Johannesburg. “These new pipelines will take pressure off the ageing infrastructure and will reduce water bursts.”

Tonkin said rubble would be removed by the end of the month and urged motorists to be patient.
