Pine trees can grow up to 80 metres tall and are tough to maintain and trim.

Wilgeheuwel resident Chris Naidoo has a very large pine tree in front of his house in Muntstuk Avenue. He had asked Johannesburg City Parks to trim the tree as the leaves block his drains.

“My driveway turned into a small swimming pool after the last storm because my drains were blocked by the foliage,” he said.

He said he had called the entity numerous times but nothing has been done. “My neighbour took matters into his own hands when he called a private tree felling company and they removed the tree on his pavement. It’s not the resident’s responsibility to call City Parks because they are unable to do their job.”

City Parks spokesperson Jenny Moodley was unable to reply to calls and emails sent to her as she is on leave until 10 January.
