Last week Wednesday our entire office donned red t-shirts emblazoned with ‘Caxton Elves’ on the back and headed to old Melville to replace all the light bulbs in the Christmas lights on 7th Street – just in time for the annual Christmas fete.

What started out as a lovely morning with sun, colleagues and 805 light bulbs, was brought to an abrupt halt. News reached us that our receptionist Cecilia Marawu was involved in the horrific Diepsloot taxi accident on the N14, and tragically was one of the six people killed.

Cecilia had a remarkable sense of humour and a mischievous streak. She had been looking forward to our day out in Melville. She was the first person we all saw when we arrived at the office each day and always had a smile on her face. Her absence is palpable. We all stop for a second every time the phone rings at the office, and realise she’s not there to answer it.

We dedicated our work on Wednesday to her memory and will think of her whenever we look at Melville’s Christmas lights.

Our hearts and prayers go out to her son and two daughters who have lost a truly special mother.

Rest in peace Cecilia.
