Traffic lights on Hendrik Potgieter Road at the entrance of Clearwater Mall are out – and have been out for nearly two weeks. The reason? Theft.
“The signal is without power,” said Mosa Makhalima of Johannesburg Roads Agency. “A City Power mini sub-transformer has been stolen,” he added. Makhalima stressed City Power is aware of the problem.
Traffic is heavily congested and motorists are frustrated. “We have received numerous complaints from tenants and customers making use of the mall, concerning the lights that have been out in Hendrik Potgieter at the entrance to the centre,” said general manager of Clearwater Mall, Vicky Vlok.
Vlok has spoken with city councillor Willie van der Schyf, who confirmed the transformer had been stolen. She added she has scheduled a meeting with him to discuss the matter. Roodepoort Northsider has contacted City Power, but at the time of going to press the spokesperson was not available for comment regarding the issue.
