Maragon’ School’s mathematicians

Pupils excel at Cami Math's Turning-the-Tables competition

RUIMSIG – This year Maragon School entered the Cami Maths Turning-the-Tables competition. Cami Maths is a computer aided maths instruction programme and it offers a comprehensive curriculum-compliant software system for pupils. The Turning-the-Tables competition encourage pupils to maximise their proficiency in core maths skills.

The competition began in February when the Cami gurus visited various Johannesburg schools, ran competitions in each grade and motivated the children to work hard for the finals in October.

After stiff internal competition, seven pupils were chosen to represent Maragon at the finals, that were held on 5 October at St David’s school in Inanda.

The following Maragon pupils were selected:

  • Declan Swanepoel (Grade 1)
  • Andrew Engelbrecht (Grade 2)
  • Kerri-Ann Naiker (Grade 3)
  • Tegan Malherbe (Grade 4)
  • Andrew Lambiris (Grade 5)
  • Sheldon Naicker (Grade 6)
  • Tamuka Chakaipa (Grade 7)

Four of the seven pupils received medals; Declan Swanepoel, Tegan Malherbe, Andrew Lambiris and Tamuka Chakaipa.

Seventy-two schools took part in the competition and Maragon came in fourth, taking first place for the West Rand.

The competition was filmed and broadcasted on YO-TV.
