Two men survive armed hijacking on Rail Street

Three men on the loose in a silver Audi with unknown registration

Brazen thuggery reared its unpleasant head once again when three men opened fire on two other men before assaulting and robbing one of them on Monday, 24 February.

The two men survived, one with minor injuries, after their car was attacked at roughly 8.30pm. The driver of an Audi S3 was dropping off his friend in Rail Street after a gym session when a silver Audi approached their car. Three unidentified armed men got out of the vehicle, prompting the driver of the S3 to take evasive action by reversing his car, to which the armed men responded by opening fire on his vehicle.

The gunshots resulted in irreparable damage to the S3’s engine, immobilising the luxury German vehicle. The occupants of the S3 attempted to flee the scene but only the passenger was able to get away as the driver was caught by the armed men. They then attempted to start the car, at which they had repeatedly fired shot, but to no avail, leaving them to assault their victim and rob him of cash, a laptop, cellphone and keys.

The armed assailants fled in their silver Audi, of which the registration unfortunately is unknown. Cases of attempted murder and attempted hijacking have been opened at Florida Police Station. Florida Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mpho More pleaded with members of the public who may have any information to please call Sergeant Sintwa on 084 770 3591 as soon as possible.
