R10 000 worth of Mandrax confiscated in Florida

Police also find illegal ammunition for a .38 Special

An early-morning bust served as an ongoing reminder that drugs and illegal firearms go hand in hand. Florida Police members made an arrest relating to both matters on Tuesday morning, 18 February.

Detectives were chasing a lead about an unknown male who allegedly have been dealing in illegal substances. They tracked the suspect to a residence were they conducted a raid at roughly 6.30am. The detectives discovered a large supply of Mandrax as well as illegal ammunition. Florida Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mpho More confirmed the haul saying, “They found 14 rounds for a .38 Special, and Mandrax tablets with a street value of R10 000”.

Sergeant More congratulated members on a job well done and also reiterated Minister Bheki Cele’s call to take advantage of the ongoing Firearm Amnesty. “The objective of the amnesty period is to reduce the large pool of illegal or unwanted firearms, ammunition and firearm parts that are in circulation in the country,” she explained.

The amnesty period ends 31 May 2020.
